"ONE MANS TRASH IS ANOTHER MANS TREASURE"
In todays economic climate of austerity, when we are constantly being told to tighten our belts and save money. Its nice to know that there are still some places out there where everyone can go to grab a bargain.
Despite Ebay and other such internet auction sites, FLEA MARKETS and CARBOOT SALES are still very much alive and thriving as well as being great places to find some hidden treasures, potter about or simply laugh at the tat on sale whilst thinking " I used to have one of those!"
Shopping at these places is a great way to find anything and everything you might want. From antiques, curios and collectables to appliances, furniture, tools, clothes, shoes, toys, household goods and those little hidden gems from your past.
Stalls are operated by a variety of people ranging from a small proportion of "professional" vendors, making their livelihood from travelling around the markets, to everyday folk looking to have a clear out at home and make a little extra cash in the process.
Most of the goods on sale are often used but no longer wanted personal possessions and these events are a great way of focussing a large number of people into one place to recycle still useful items that might previously have simply been thrown away. Conseqently you can find just about anything you could ever need (as well as things you never imagined you needed!)
Everyone has watched TV programmes such as "BARGAIN HUNT" and "ANTIQUES ROADSHOW" featuring individuals who have bought an item carboot sale a few pence only to be told by an expert that it is worth thousands.
Here is an example:
Memorabilia belonging to boxing legends Randolph Turpin and Bruce Woodcock was bought for £50 at a carboot sale in North Wales. When it was put into an auction a few months later, the items sold for over £1000.
